‘Winchfield Train Station’

A set of photographs of hand painted columns at Winchfield train station, UK, 7 September 2013.

The photographs (which are un-edited) were taken on my mobile phone and show real variations on a single visual theme that has been painted around each surface of various columns at the train station.

As well as highlighting the beauty that can be found in human error, the photographs explore how a pure modernist ideologies are broken down or marked as a consequence of an objects unforseen functionality (eg. something for a person to lean against) and environmental factors (sunlight, moisture and temperature variations etc).

Decline, destruction, maintenance and re-development are fundamental properties that underline modernism.
